Christchurch mosque attack kills 49, gunman live-streams shooting
Christchurch: A gunman opened fire on two mosques in central Christchurch, New Zealand, killing 49 people including women and children.
“One person, a male in his late 20s, has been charged with murder, and should appear in the Christchurch Court tomorrow morning,” said New Zealand police Commissioner Mike Bush.
The attacks were live-streamed by the Australian gunman.
The video of the shooting is going viral on social media platforms which shows the gunman spraying worshippers with bullets with an automatic weapon.
Police urged people not to share the footage of the incident.
“Police are aware there is extremely distressing footage relating to the incident in Christchurch circulating online. We would strongly urge that the link not be shared. We are working to have any footage removed,” New Zealand Police said in a statement.
Prime Minister Jacina Arden called the shooting a a well-planned terrorist attack.
She said two explosive devices have also been found attached to gunman’s vehicle.
Arden said 20 people were injured in the assault.
