Area 51 leaked images: Pentagon releases statement

Area 51 is a US military site that was developed in 1950s during the Cold War era and it was only in 2013 that Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) admitted that this highly secret area exists in the country

Area 51 is A US Air Force Base which is located in Nevada Desert near Los Vegas.

Little is known about the site since the US agencies keep the public at by warning signs and surveillance.

The site is currently visible on satellite images.

Annie Jacobsen, the authoro who has written about Area 51, told BBC last year that some of the world’s most advanced espinoae progammes ae at the site.

“Area 51 is a test and training facility. The research began with the U-2 spy plane in the 1950s and has now moved on to dronesm,” said in an interview with BBC.

The site has triggered many conspiracy theories due to the secrecy surrounding it.

According to a famous theory three aliens and their spacecraft have been kept at the site. Rumors have long been swirling that a spacecraft crashed at Roswell, New Mexico in 1947.

Many people claimed that they have seen UFOs near the site while others said they have been abducted by the aliens before being released.

The area once again come into focus after the Pentagon released three declassified videos of “unexplained aerial phenomena”.

The US Department of Defense said by releasing the videos it wanted to “clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real”.

The videos had already been leaked in 2007 and 2017.

In its statement, the Pentagon said: “After a thorough review, the department has determined that the authorized release of these unclassified videos does not reveal any sensitive capabilities or systems, and does not impinge on any subsequent investigations of military air space incursions by unidentified aerial phenomena.

“DOD [Department of Defense] is releasing the videos in order to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real, or whether or not there is more to the videos. The aerial phenomena observed in the videos remain characterized as ‘unidentified’.”
