Car bomb kills over 40 Indian soldiers in Occupied Kashmir
NEW DELHI: Over 40 Indian soldiers were killed when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive laden car into their vehicle near Pulwama on the Sringar and Jammu highway on Thursday, in the bloodiest attack in the last three decades.
According to Indian media reports, the attack targeting a convoy of over 2500 security forces killed soldiers of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
It also left four troops injured in the attack.
According to The Hindu, the injured were shifted to a military run hospital in Srinagar where 40 soldiers were either declared dead or succumbed to their injuries.
The newspaper said a convoy of 2500 personnel was travelling to Srinagar from Jammu when it came under attack about 3:15 pm.
Citing a security official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the paper said an SUV car laden with 300 to 350 KG explosive material was used in the attack.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack as despicable and dastardly.
