Fire broke out at Al-Aqsa Mosque at the same time as flames engulfed Notre-Dame

PARIS: As the fire engulfed Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, a fire also reportedly broke out at the Al-Aqsa  Mosque thousands of miles away in Middle East on Monday .

The fires broke out simultaneously at both the places and footage of the incident at Al-Aqasa Mosque was also shared on social media.

The magnitude of destruction at the Notre-Dame Cathedral, however, overshadowed the fire at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

According to reports, the fire took place at Marwani Prayer Room located underneath the southeastern corner of the Temple Mount which contains both the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The flames were successfully doused by fire brigade of the Islamic Waqf with no reports of losses inflicted to property or human lives.

Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department Director General Sheikh Azzzam al Khatib  told a TV channel that the fire was probably caused by children tampering in the area.
