Saudi Arabia: Ramadan to start on Monday

RIYADH: Ramadan will start on Monday in Saudi Arabia as authorities received no evidence of moon sighting on Saturday.

The holy month, during which Muslims fast from dust to dawn, begins a day after the crescent of new moon is sighted.

The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia had asked people to look for the moon on Saturday.

People were asked to inform the nearest court of those who see it with the naked eye or through the binoculars, according to Saudi Press Agency.

Muslim in many European and Asian countries where the Muslims are considered minorities start start fasting after the moon is sighted in Saudi Arabia.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, the moon sighting body comprising clerics and Met Office experts, will hold a meeting on Sunday to collect evidence of moon sighting or otherwise.

The Met Office had predicted a few days ago that the month of Ramadan will start in Pakistan on Tuesday, May 07, 2019.
