A new approach to journalism

THIS video of Madina’s deserted streets will move you to tears

Most of the cities in Saudi Arabia went into lockdown after the country recently witnessed a surge in the coronavirus cases.

The authorities in the kingdom have closed international flights amid the pandemic that has killed thousands of people across the world during the past few months.

The country also closed Islam’s holiest sites in Makkah and Madina for pilgrims as part of their efforts to prevent the disease from spreading further.

Amid unconfirmed reports of Haj being cancelled this year, a video from Madina has surfaced online.

The video is short in part inside the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid-e-Nabawi) where no worshipers are seen. The man behind the camera then steps out of the mosque to show the deserted streets and shopping malls of Madina that are usually crowded.

With an Urdu Naat playing in the background, the video left Muslim social media users seeking forgiveness for their sins amid the coronavirus outbreak.

When a senior Pakistani journalist Ansar Abbasi posted it on Twitter, international cricketer Muhammad Nawaz also retweeted it to share the clip with fans.

Former Pakistan captain Sarfarz Ahmed was also among thousands of people who liked the video from Madina.
