Eid-ul-Fitr 2021: List of E-branches for fresh currency notes

Karachi: The State Bank of Pakistan will not issue fresh currency notes in Ramazan ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr 2021, a spokesman for the central bank told The Namal on Saturday.

The SBP has decided not to issue new currency notes to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. According to experts, the country is in the grip of third wave of the novel coronavirus which is proving deadlier than the first two waves it has witnessed.

The State Bank of Pakistan issues a list of bank branches that issue fresh currency notes ahead of Eid-ul-Fitar every year.

Demand for the fresh notes increases in the holy month of Ramzan since the currency is traditionally gifted by Pakistani Muslims to loved ones on Eid.

The State Bank releases the list of E-branches asking people to book their fresh currency notes by sending an SMS.

Once the notes are booked via the SMS, people can collect them from the branch they have chosen.

This year, the SBP has not yet issued the list probably because of the situation created by the coronavirus pandemic. But it highly likely that the list would soon be available.
