PM Imran wants action against NAB officials for humiliating Dr Samad
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minster Imran Khan on Friday asked Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to take action against those in his institution who are responsible for the “disgraceful act” of dragging a PhD scholar in courts who intended to serve the country.
The prime minister took notice of a tweet sent out by a user Ismail Khan who wrote that the anti-graft body “brought the only PhD in Sanskrit, in Asia from Germany Dr Samad, to court for employing low paid workers to ward off illegal excavations,”. referring to Director of Archaeology Dr Abdul Samad.
The user wrote that Dr Samad is a Fulbright scholar and a gold medalist in archaeology , raising the question that why would anyone serve the country if such a treatment is meted out to a learned man with good intentions.
“What a shame! Why should anybody serve here!,” Ismail Khan wrote, prompting the prime minister to intervene.
The premier also posted the screenshot of the user’s tweet.
NAB Chairman takes notice
Taking notice of the arrest, NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal ordered the Director General NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to present Dr Abdul Samad before the agency’s headquarters in Islamabad along with details of allegations levelled aganist him.
In a statement issued by the NAB, Javed Iqbak said the NAB values the services of Dr Abdul Samad, vowing to protect the self-respect of the detainee.
