1st Muharram 2019 date in Pakistan

Karachi: New Islamic year is about to begin in a week and it starts with the holy month of Muharram.

Muharram holds a special importance for Muslims since it is the month in which Hazrat Imam (R.A) and his companions sacrificed their lives for Islam.

Muslims marks the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Hussain and his companions on 10 Muharram which is called Youm-e-Ashura.

Mourners take out processions across the country to pay tribute to the Imam.

This year there are chances of Youm-e-Ashura (10 Muharram) falling on September 9th.

Final decision is made by official moonsighting body which holds it meeting on the last date every Islamic month.

It is likely that 1st Muharram 2019 will fall on August 31. The government announces two-day public holiday on 9th and 10th Muharram.
