Dr Ejaz Akram: who is chairman of National Rehmatul-lil-Aalameen Authority?

The government has been criticized for appointing Dr. Ijaz Akram as as Chairman of National Rehmatalil Aalmeen Authority.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan appointed the “ prominent scholar of religion and comparative religious studies with teaching experience in the world over universities, as Chairman of NRA under ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training Islamabad.”

The NRA has been established with an aim to counter narratives of Islamophobia, propaganda against Islam and Holy Prophet PBUH.

His appointement has been criticized for old statements regarding 9/11, nationalist movements in Pakistan and his views that military shouldn’t support civilian polticians but should take over the country directly to bring a return to aristocratic rule.

He also believes that Chinese repression of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang is just Western propaganda.
