Is Pakistan a member of NATO

Islamabad: Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine for its desire to become a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Pakistanis are asking whether their country is also a member of the alliance.

NATO is an intergovernmental military alliance between 28 European countries and 2 North American countries. Established in the aftermath of World War II, the organization implements the North Atlantic Treaty that was signed on 4 April 1949.

NATO constitutes a system of collective security, whereby its independent member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. The NATO headquarters are located in Brussels, Belgium, while the headquarters of Allied Command Operations is near Mons, Belgium.

For those wandering whether Pakistan is a member of NATO, the country does not borders North Atlantic Ocean and cannot become a member.

The country has been a non-Nato ally of the US but it will be in its own whenever it goes into a war like we have seen Ukraine.
