Karachi weather, rain update: Sunday 14-08-2022
Karachi: The city is expected to receive rain on Sunday due to new weather conditions developing in the Arabian Sea, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
A statement issued by the Met Office said, “The well-marked low-pressure area after intensifying into a Depression now lies over North Arabian Sea at a distance about 450 km southwest of Karachi, 500km from Thatta & 350km south of Ormara.”
It said, “The system is likely to move further westward till today evening and then recurve northeastwards and weaken gradually. The low over Rajasthan, India also persists but has weakened.”
The statement added, ‘Under the influence of these weather systems: Widespread Rain-thunderstorms with a few heavy/very heavy falls (isolated extremely heavy) & occasional strong winds to occur in Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Tando Muhammad khan, Tando Allayar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Thatta, Sujawal, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Noushero Feroz, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Jamshoro & Kambar Shahdadkot districts & Karachi division till 15 August with occasional gaps.
Rainfall intensity also to increase in northeastern & southern districts of Balochistan which may trigger flash flooding in Dadu, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkotdistricts & downstream.
Impacts: Heavy falls may create water-logging/urban flooding in low lying areas of Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Umar Kot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando, Muhammad khan, Tando Allayar, Dadu, Noushero Feroz, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana & Sukkur districts during the forecast period.
Persistent heavy rains over Khuzdar, Lasbella and Hub distts of Balochistan & over Kirthar Range may create extra pressure on Hub dam, Thaddo dam & downstream nullahs. Sea conditions likely to remain very rough next two days & fishermen are advised not to venture in open sea till tomorrow night.
