Karachi weather, rain update: Friday 19-08-2022
Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said there were no changes of heavy rain in the city on Friday.
It said Karachi may receive drizzle or logjt rain under the current monsoon system.
Below is the full statement issued by the Met Office on Thursday for the next 24 hours:
The monsoon low-pressure area persists over Sindh and adjoining West Rajasthan (India).
Under the influence of this weather system: Widespread Rain-thunderstorms with scattered heavy /very heavy falls (extremely heavy at times) & accompanied with occasional strong winds likely to occur in Shaheed Benazirabad, Noshero Feroz, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkot ,Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Tando Muhammad khan, Tando Allayar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Thatta, Sujawal & Sanghar distts till 19 August night.
Intermittent rain-thunderstorm of moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls to continue in Karachi & outskirts till tonight. The continuing wet spell over northeastern & southern districts of Balochistan to become intense from today and persist till 21 August which may trigger flash flooding in Dadu, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkot districts & downstream.
Impacts
Heavy falls may create water-logging/urban flooding in low lying areas of Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Umarkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad khan, Tando Allayar, Dadu, Jamshoro, Noshero Feroz, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana & Sukkur districts today & tomorrow. Persistent heavy rains over Khuzdar, Lasbella and Hub distts of Balochistan & over Kirthar Range may create extra pressure on Hub dam, Thaddo dam
