Karachi weather, rain update: Thursday 11-08-2022

Karachi: The metropolis is expected to receive rain as monsoon currents continue to penetrate Sindh.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon system is likely to become stronger from Thursday.

Under the influence of this weather system: Rain-thunderstorms with a few moderate (isolate heavy) falls are expected in Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Tando Muhammad khan, Tando Allayar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Thatta, Sujawal, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Jamshoro and Kambar Shahdadkot districts and Karachi division and likely to become intense and widespread up to 14 August.

Rainfall intensity would also increase from 12 August in northeastern and southern districts of Balochistan which may trigger flash flooding in Dadu, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkot districts & downstream. Impacts: Heavy falls may create water-logging/urban flooding in low lying areas of Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Tando Muhammad khan, Tando Allayar, Dadu, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana and Sukkur districts during the forecast period. Persistent heavy rains over Khuzdar, Lasbella, Hub districts and over Kirthar Range may create extra pressure on Hub dam, Thaddo dam and downstream. Sea conditions likely to become rough/very rough during 11-14 August and fishermen are advised to take extra care.
