Pakistan reaction on 370
Karachi: India on Monday revoked Article 370 which abolished special status granted to Kashmir decades ago.
Pakistan sees this move as an Indian attempt to change the demography of the occupied territory since the special status under Indian constitution also allowed Kashmiris to decide who is Kashmiri and who is not.
People outside the Kashmir valley were not allowed to purchase land and acquire jobs there. With Article 370 abolished, Indian government can settle as many people in Kashmir as it wants.
This, Pakistanis think, would change the demography of the Muslim majority region which according to the United Nations resolution can decide their fate through a plebiscite whether they want to stay with India or merge with Pakistan.
Following the Indian move, President of Pakistan has called a joint sitting of the parliament (National Assembly and the Senate ) to discuss the situation chalk out future course of action.
Pakistan army’s top commanders are also set to meet at the Corps Commanders Conference to discuss the situation.
Social media is flooded with posts against Indian government decision, with young people calling for a war against India while others said the revocation of article 375 would have little effect since India was an occupation force in Kashmir before the latest move and would remain so after that.
Many think India was following in the footsteps of Israel and would intensify crackdown in the occupied territory.
