Who is Lt. General Asim Munir?
Islamabad: Lt. General Asim Munir is the most favorite candidate for slot of the Chief of the Army Staff.
New army chief would take charge of his position when current Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa retires on November 29.
Late journalist Arshad Sharif had showered praises on Asim Munir, calling him a pro-democracy and an upright soldier. Arshad ,who was shot dead in Kenya last month, said Asim Munir believes in civilian supremacy.
Meanwhile, it has been learned that Lt.General Asim Munir, was the course-mate with Captain Safdar, who would have been a contender for the army chief’s slot himself if he had not taken retirement.
Asim Munir served as the Director General Military Operations, Director General General ISI and Gujranwala Corps Commander during his service.
He will be the first army chief who has headed two intelligence agencies: the ISI and the MI (Military Intelligence).
He will retire on November 27th if he is not appointed the army chief.
