Who is Shari Baloch, the BLA bomber who targeted Chinese in Karachi ?
Karachi: A woman carried out a suicide bombing in the University of Karachi on Tuesday, killing four people including three Chinese nationals teaching at the Confucius Institute of the university and their Pakistani driver.
The Majeed Brigade of the proscribed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack. A spokesperson of the militant organization identified the female bomber as Shari Baloch alias Bramsh.
According to local journalists, bomber Shari also worked as a primary school teacher. She was the daughter of a retired government employee and belonged to a established, educated and peaceful family. She was reportedly a BSO Azad member in student life and was a member of Majeed Brigade since 2020.
Afghan journalist Bashir Ahmad Gwakh said that Habitan Bashir Baloch, husband of female suicide bomber Shari Baloch, tweeted from an unknown location saying that he is proud of what she did.
He also informed that Shari Baloch has had two kids (8 and 5 years old). Her husband, Habitan Bashir Baloch, is a dentist and her father was a lecturer.
Gwakh also shared a snapshot of the tweet posted by Baloch’s husband. The tweet stated, “Shari Jan, your selfless act has left me speechless but I am also beaming with pride today. Mahroch and Meer Hassan will grow into very proud humans thinking what a great woman there was. You will continue to remain an important part of our lives.”
A journalist said that Baloch militant organizations plan to use the women for attacks on security forces and other targets whose husbands or other family members have allegedly been killed but there were no report of any family member of Shari being killed or arrested.
Journalist Kiya Baloch said Shari Baloch was clad in a Burqa which made it easier for her to hide explosives inside her cloak. Below is a Twitter account which several people claimed belonged the woman who blew herself in Karachi when a vehicle carrying the Chinese national approached.
“Shaari had joined Majeed Brigade two years ago” says spokesperson #BLA, “and six months ago she confirmed that she continues to stand by her decision of carrying out a self-sacrificing attack. After that she was actively involved in her mission”.
