Dr Maria, mother of two, found dead after husband’s second marriage

Lahore: Police are investigating the death of a female doctor whose body was found hanging from a fan in a private housing society in the Raiwind City area in Lahore on Wednesday.

The 40-year old woman was identified as Doctor Maria, mother of two children, who worked at Children’s Hospital.

Police suspected that Maria was murdered as they tried to ascertain the exact cause of hr death. According to a report, Dr Maria’s husband Rashid worked in Sahiwal and contracted second marriage about two months ago in Sahiwal.

An application has been filed against the husband by the brother of the deceased. Crimes against woman in Pakistan have seen a dramatic surge in Pakistan during the last few months. Women rights organizations have demanded the government protect women by ensuring implementation of laws.
