Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in Pakistan on Wednesday, Ruete Hilal Committee said on Tuesday after Shawwal moon was sighted in the country.

Mufti Munibur Rehman chaired a meeting of the Central Ruete-Hilal Committee to sight the moon of Shawal which marks the end of Ramadan.

The committee comprising religious scholars and Met Office officials decides the date of Eid in Pakistan after receiving evidence of moonsighting from across the country.

Earlier Met Office said, Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to fall on June 5 as moonsighting was expected on Tuesday, June 4.

Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chauhdyr has launched a moonsighting app which he says can help people learn about beginning of Islamic months.

According to the minister, scientific data shows Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated on June 5.

Muslim in many countries are celebrating Eid today.

The Central-Reut-e-Hilal Committee makes its decisions based on evidence it receives through eyewitnesses.

Several Zonal Committees also held their meetings in major cities of country to collect evidence of moonsighting. The evidence are sent to central body which makes the final decision.
