Islamabad rain was not cloudburst: Met Office

Islamabad: While the government and the mainstream media called the heavy downpour in Islamabad a result of a cloudburst, nobody seemed to pay heed to the statement issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department on Wednesday July 28th 2021.

The Met Office denied the reports that that the heavy floods that wreaked havoc in Islamabad were triggered by a by a cloudburst.

It said the capital witnessed a strong monsoon rain spell between 5:00 am to 6:30 which triggered the floods in the city.

“It is to clarify that weather system was forecasted earlier vide weather advisory issued by PMD on 26th July 2021 and was disseminated to NDMA and print and electronic media. This was extensive heavy rainfall and cannot be termed as a cloudburst,” said Met Office in a statement.
