Two men jump to death as multi-storey building catches fire in Karachi

KARACHI: Two men jumped to their deaths after a fire broke out at a multi-storey building on Thursday on University Road.

Residents of the building were jumping from windows and using access ropes to climb down as the fire started engulfing the structure.

Pakistan Navy helicopters were also sent to evacuate the people stranded in the building.

Several people are said to have injured in the incident.

Fire tenders of the Fire Brigade along with Pakistan Navy firefighters were dispatched to douse the fire which took place at the sixth floor.

“Five people are being treated for burn injuries with two of them in critical condition ,” said a rescue official.

Several people were still trapped inside as the fire tenders tried to extinguish the flames. The residential building also houses offices of different companies.
