Mianwali police arrest two truck drivers for voting for Imran as crackdown continues against PTI

Mianwali: Police on Tuesday arrested two men for voting for Imran Khan in the general election of 2018 , a day before PTI starts its long march.

Locals said that Ajmal, a truck driver in his 30s, and Aarfeen, 40, were taken into custody by Chikrala Police in district Mianwali as the crackdown against PTI workers contained across Punjab.

They said the men were locked up on the orders of District Police Officer (DPO) Mianwali on the basis of a screenshot of a Facebook page.

Both the men are not associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) but they confessed to voting for Imran Khan, who was elected from their constituency.

SHO Chikrala refused to release the two men, saying he received direct orders from the DPO.

Interestingly, prominent PTI leaders from the area have already left for Islamabad to take part in the party’s march.

No other man or woman was arrested by the Chikrala Police from Ajmal and Aarfeen’s village where more than 90 percent people voted for PTI.

The men’s family and friends said they did not intend to attend the PTI march or have any plan to create law and order situation, demanding the police release them.

The Facebook screenshot which police is using against the drivers did not belong to the men.

An eyewitness said the man identified as Aarfeen was told by SHO that he will have to stay in the lockup because he had voted for Imran Khan.
