‘No cloudburst in Karachi’: Sindh govt’s claim rejected

Karachi: Several people died and large areas of the metropolis were submerged after a heavy rain on Friday.

Provincial authorities were criticized for their failure to cope with the situation that occured after the heavy downpour.

Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui said, “There was a major cloud burst in central district due to which KDA and Nagan Chowrangi have water.

However, Naala and drainage line has responded well and water level is coming down. Machinery has been deployed. All underpasses are clear for traffic. Will keep everyone posted. Thanks.”

His claim about cloudburst was rejected by pakweather.com.

The website said, “Karachi didn’t receive any cloudburst yesterday, the last one we had was on 27th August 2020. For cloudburst rain amount needs to be recorded 100mm+ in 1-2 hours. Highest hourly rainfall yesterday was just 41mm in Surjani town, while most of the city was below 20s.”
