Pervez Elahi receives backlash for statement about army chief

Lahore: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters are criticizing Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi for his latest statement regarding the army chief.

Hundreds of PTI supporters targeted the Chaudhry from Gujrat for praising General Qamar Javed Bajwa at a time when Imran Khan is apparently at loggerheads with the security establishment.

Elahi, who got elected with the support of Imran Khan’s PTI, said General Qamar Javed Bajwa had been on the front foot for the defence of Pakistan and Islam.

In a string of tweets, the chief minister recalled how General Bajwa helped lift a ban on Tableeghi Jamaat in Saudi Arabia.

He said that the army chief’s services for Islam, democracy and the defence of the country are commendable.
