Protests erupt after Saturday holiday ended
Karachi: Federal government employees and bankers have rejected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to end Saturday holiday.
Hundreds of government employees and bankers recorded their protest against the newly elected prime minister’s decision in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and other major cities of Pakistan.
The protesting employees gathered after spreading their message through WhatsApp groups and social media websites.
Meanwhile, experts have also criticized Sharif’s decision to end the Saturday holiday, saying “It will also increase the import bill by roughly US$ 1.5 billion due to fuel imports, while also leading to more power breakdowns. “Obviously, productivity is only going to decrease anyway,” said an economic expert while commenting on the prime minister’s decision.
