Islamabad: The government of Pakistan has approved the price of Sputnik V Russian vaccine for coronavirus after it was imported by a private company.

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) had recommended the price of Russian coronavirus vaccine to the government. The watchdog had advised the government to to set the price of two doses of the vaccine between Rs8000 and Rs9000. A senior journalist said that Pakistani government has set the price at Rs8449 for two doses.

Geo News reported that DRAP took the decision regarding the price of the vaccine during an emergency meeting convened by the regulatory authority.

Pakistan received the first shipment of privately-imported Russian COVID-19 vaccine, Gam-COVID-Vac or Sputnik V, at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi earlier this week. Meanwhile, the country continues to administer Chinese vaccince to people over 60.

Moreover, Russia’s COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V will cost less than $10 (Rs 730) per shot in India, reported Business Today.

“The price we have is the same for all of the markets and we have basically announced the pricing of less than $10 per shot. And it will be the same for all of the markets because we believe that there needs to be equal access, equal pricing to all of the countries without any sort of changes, ” the publication quoted CEO of Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev as saying on Sunday.

He said Sputnik V’s $10 price tag is not only affordable but also half to one-third of other vaccines and has an efficacy rate of more than 90 per cent.
