Whatsapp group admins to face 1 year jail term for spreading explicit content

Islamabad: The Federal government has decided to start monitoring Whatsapp group in order to curb spread of pornographic content.

According to a leading Urdu daily, the authorities have constituted five member teams comprising the officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take action against admins of private Whatsapp groups involved in spreading lewd pictures and videos.

The FIA teams have been set up on district levels to take action against users spreading explicit content.

If convicted Whatsapp group admins would face up to one year jail team and Rs.50,000 fine.

The newspaper, however, did not mention as to how the government plans to monitor the Whatsapp groups created by private individuals.

The Namal could not independently confirm the report but some senior journalists also shared it on Twitter on Sunday.
