World court asks Pakistan to review Kulbhushan’s death sentence

The Hague : The International Court of Justice on Wednesday asked Pakistan to review the death sentence for Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.

Jadhav, a former Indian navy officer, was arrested in Balochistan in March 2016 on charges of espionage, and condemned to death by a military court in 2017.

The Hague-based international court ordered the “effective review and reconsideration of the conviction and sentence”.

The judge asked Pakistan to give India consular access to the convicted spy.

“A continued stay of execution constitutes an indispensable condition for the effective review and reconsideration of the conviction and sentence of Mr Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav,” it ruled.

According to private TV channels, the court has dismissed New Delhi’s plea seeking acquittal of Jadhav.
