Afridi lauds Pak Army for sentencing senior officers for spying
Afridi applauded the army for the bold and difficult decision
Karachi: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi on Thursday praised the Pakistan Army for convicting the two senior officers and a civilian employed by an army organization.
The cricketer took to Twitter an hour after army said it has awarded life term to General (retd) Javed Iqbal, death sentence to Brigadier Rizwan and a civilian doctor Wasim Akram for spying.
“Proud of Pakistan Army for placing itself first & foremost on the line for accountability. Death penalty & imprisonment to its senior officers on charges of spying is a difficult but bold decision. That’s why our Army is strong, he wrote on Twitter.
According to a statement issued by the army, General Qamar Javed Bajwa endorsed the punishment after trial under Pakistan Army Act (PAA) and Official Secret Act by Separate Field General Court Marshal for separate cases.
