On April Fool’s Day, Pakistanis intensify efforts against climate change by observing April Cool

ISLAMABAD: Social media users were supporting “April Cool” initiative to fight climate change effects on April Fool’s Day.

While The April Fool’s Day is celebrated by playing jokes and spreading hoaxes, the users were calling for planting a tree on the day to mitigate the climate change effects.

“Instead of making April Fool lets plant trees and make it #AprilCool  for a greater, better future,” read a poster shared on social media by Government’s Clean and Green Pakistan initiative,

Pakistan has been bracing for hot summer and intense heatwaves which killed thousands of people during the last few years.

Pakistani government has launched several campaigns to encourage people to plant more trees in order to fight climate change.

Ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party during its first stint in Khyber Paktunkhwa provincial government had launched Billion Tree Tsunami project which was widely lauded.

After coming to power last year, Prime Minister Imran Khan had expanded his campaign to other parts of the country.

During his recent visit to Karachi, Imran Khan lamented that the metropolis seems like a concrete slab with no trees.

The prime minister was also critical of horizontal of of Pakistani cities.
