Ushna Shah has the best reaction to Aurat March slogan ‘Mera Jism Meri Marzi’

TV actress Ushna Shah has expressed her views on “Mera Jism Meri Marzi (My body my choice)”, a slogan that has left people divided in Pakistan over Aurat March (Women’s March).

The debate over the slogan became heated after famous playwright Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar hurled abuses at Marvi Sarmad on a TV show.

While some people from the showbiz industry joined the chorus of condemnations against Qamar for abusing a woman on live TV, they were clearly divided over the use of “Mera Jims Meri Marzi”.

On the eve of International Women’s Day, Unsha Shah has voiced support fro Aurat March in an Instagram note which everybody seems to agree with.

Instead of provoking anybody, the actress simply asked the people to stand up for women’s rights whether they like the slogan or not.

Here is what she said: “Dear citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. I beseech you, have your own meaning of #merajismmerimarzi – I don’t care. This debate is taking attention away from the important issues we are trying to bring forth: If you are against rape, marital rape, forged marriages, child marriages, forced births, forced abortions, harassment and abuse towards women, then we are on the same team. We must stand together to fight for the rights of many women that Islam grants but much of our society doesn’t. If you are in this fight for the protection and equality of all women; we are on the same team. Let’s not forget our cause over an argument about a slogan. If the slogan seems inappropriate to you, forget it, just don’t forget what is important. Thank you. That is all.”
