Woman swims from Bangladesh to India, ends up in police custody after marrying boyfriend

Mumbai: Indian police arrested a 22-year-old Bangladeshi woman who swam across the border to marry her boyfriend from India. 

The woman identified as Krishna married the love of her life Abhik Mandal before the police arrested her for illegally entering India.

Local media reported that the newlywed couple’s love story began on Facebook.

While it was not known why the man did not chose to cross the border, it has been learnt that Krishna risked her life to meet her lover.

Citing police sources, India Today reported that Krishna first entered the Sundarbans, which is known for its Royal Bengal Tigers. She then swam for about an hour in the river to reach her destination.

One of the reasons Krishna entered India illegally was because she did not have a passport.
